UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY
AGENDA: Exploring a new framework for human expression in the 21st century
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.
We are the stories we tell ourselves—and artists, authors and advocates are the lead storytellers.
As we commit to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals as the most pressing challenges of our time, we evaluate a list of the most pertinent issues regarding biotechnology, nuclear war and cybersecurity among a plethora of others. The UNGA aims to deliberate on the presence of the power of human expression in this list.
What is proposed here represents some of the value choices, the ethical building blocks, that will enable a world of peace and harmony to come into existence--a world in which human diversity is respected and tolerated and, at the same time, a world in which each individual will be enabled and encouraged to maximize his or her potential, without discrimination and in an atmosphere of freedom. What is required to bring about this idealized world is a democratic, valuationally pluralistic society which recognizes the rights with the consequent duties of each individual.
